A Hero’s Life
Sarasota Orchestra conducted by Bramwell Tovey - Van Wezel

Program Info:
Sarasota Orchestra
Bramwell Tovey, conductor
Gil Shaham, violin

Bramwell Tovey concludes his first Masterworks season as music director with a program of heroic proportions. Internationally acclaimed violinist Gil Shaham shines in one of his signature works, Korngold’s sweeping, cinematic Violin Concerto – a work which won Maestro Tovey a Grammy Award with the Vancouver Symphony Sarasota Orchestra is the real star of Richard Strauss’ virtuosic tone poem Ein Heldenleben (A Hero’s Life). This thinly veiled musical autobiography includes snippets of Strauss’ greatest hits and has been thrilling audiences for 125 years. The concert begins with a world premiere by Sarah Gibson, recipient of a commission from the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation to champion promising female composers.

Program:
Sarah Gibson - Virginia B. Toulmin Commission
Erich Wolfgang Korngold - Violin Concerto: the concerto has themes from the scores for the movies ANOTHER DAWN (1937), ANTHONY ADVERSE (1936) & THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER (1937)
Richard Strauss - Ein Heldenleben
