Dreaming of Italy with Respighi and Rota
Antwerp Symphony Orchestra conducted by Giancarlo Andretta - Koningin Elisabethzaal

Program Info:
Antwerp Symphony Orchestra
Giancarlo Andretta, conductor
Barry Douglas, piano

For centuries, Italy was the musical place to be for musicians and produced greats such as Monteverdi, Vivaldi and Rossini. Italians have never stopped breathing music and Giancarlo Andretta is the perfect guest conductor to present convincing evidence for this. Do you know what the Trevi Fountain sounds like in the afternoon? Ottorino Respighi shows it in his Fontane di Roma before visiting the circus games and other 'festivities' of Ancient Rome with Feste Romane. That other Italian pride Nino Rota, best known for his film music for The Godfather and the films of Fellini, is a relative newcomer to classical concert posters. Be amazed by his masterly Concerto soirée with pianist Barry Douglas and the Concerto for strings.

Ottorino Respighi - Fontane di Roma (Fountains of Rome)
Nino Rota - Concerto soirée, a piece for piano and orchestra which quotes from his film work.
Nino Rota - Concerto per archi, music from the films La Strada, Romeo and Juliet, Amarcord
Ottorino Respighi - Feste romane
