American Song in Technicolor
Ann Hampton Callaway & Tierney Sutton - NJPAC
Program Info: Two world-renowned jazz vocalists join forces for the first time ever with this sensational tribute to unforgettable music from the movies, both then and now – including songs by Gershwin, Mercer, Porter, Mancini, Sondheim, Alan & Marilyn Bergman, and more.
On her new Jazz Goes to the Movies LP, Tony Award nominee Ann Hampton Callaway lends her singular style to iconic musical gems from the 1930s and 1940s, songs like “Let's Face the Music and Dance,” “Blue Skies,” and “As Time Goes By.” On eight-time GRAMMY Award nominee Tierney Sutton’s recent recording, ScreenPlay, she brings her interpretive brilliance to contemporary big-screen classics, including “Windmills of Your Mind,” “I’ve Got No Strings,” “How Do You Keep the Music Playing?” and more.
Backed by the top-notch Tierney Sutton Band rhythm section, In Technicolor will be filled with both solos and duets, all arranged and interpreted in new ways. The evening will also feature music that both vocalists have performed for big-screen projects, including Sutton’s work on Clint Eastwood’s Sully, and Callaway’s renditions of “Come Rain or Come Shine” from Robert DeNiro’s The Good Shepherd, and “The Nearness of You” and “Isn’t It Romantic?” from Queen Latifah’s Last Holiday.
