Star Wars
Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Lucas Richman - Oslo Konserthus

Program Info:
John Williams - Music from the Star Wars movies

Celebrate the most powerful and legendary soundtrack in the history of film.

In a galaxy far, far away … We celebrate the most powerful and legendary soundtrack in the history of film as John Williams’ epic, dramatic music to the Star Wars films fill Oslo Concert Hall, played live by a full symphony orchestra! The American film music expert Lucas Richman is our conductor on this journey through the atmosphere in the company of Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and other characters from the iconic films. We suspect that the presence of the Empire will be felt in more than a musical sense… May the Force be with you!

John Williams (b. 1932) is behind some of the most atmospheric and urgent, but at the same time monumental symphonic film music there is. He has drawn inspiration from late romantic symphonies, early modern music and works such as Holst’s The Planets, but most of all he has used his own imagination, creativity and orchestration skills. The jewel in the crown of his works is the award-winning and unmistakeable musical universe he created from 1977 onwards to accompany George Lucas’ Star Wars films.

In Star Wars, the battle between good and evil is played out in outer space, in a galaxy “far, far away”. Together with his mentor, the Jedi knight Obi-Wan Kenobi, the hero Luke Skywalker leads an alliance which tries to save itself, the galaxy, and the beautiful Princess Leia from the evil Darth Vader and his dark Empire, which has its base in the space station The Death Star.

Apart from the fireworks of the main theme, and intensely dramatic starfighting music, the musical favourite of many is the overwhelmingly massive “Imperial March”, accompanied by Darth Vader’s spine-chilling hissing. Others have fallen in love with the lyrical themes which accompany Princess Leia or Master Yoda, and in the many atmospheric musical moments throughout the series.

Tonight, Richman and the Oslo Philharmonic display the whole spectrum of Richman’s unique film music universe. Welcome to a musical experience from another world!
