E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
Orquesta Sinfonica de Barcelona I Nacional de Cata - Hall 1 Pau Casals
Program Info: John Williams - E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
E.T. is the flying bicycle, the illuminated finger, the closet full of stuffed toys and dolls, the fear of the colour white worn by the scientists; it is tenderness, adventure... and nobody can deny that E.T. is also the music, a score which won an Oscar Award for best soundtrack in 1982.
John Williams had already written music for Steven Spielberg’s most popular films (Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Raiders of the Lost Ark, etc.), but E.T. presented a new challenge for him: the music had to reinforce the idea of a cute, friendly and affectionate alien. With the images and the music combined, the result was an ode to friendship, love, respect for difference, to smile when saying goodbye. A must-see film with a soundtrack laden with colour and sensitivity, with immortal themes such as the magical flight of the bicycles, etc., — and all this twenty years before the advent of Harry Potter!
