Film & Musik - The Cameraman
Musikkollegium Winterthur conducted by Paul-Boris Kertsman - Stadthaus
Program Info: Buster Keaton - The Cameraman Silent film with music by Rodolphe Schacher and Fabian Künzli
Movie actors usually shine with their variety of facial expressions. The great Buster Keaton succeeded in the opposite: his stoic gaze is always the same - whether he shows up in the indoor pool without a bathing suit, hangs on a moving fire engine with his bulky camera or speaks more or less awkwardly with his beloved. With the help of this woman (and with the dubious cooperation of a little monkey), he finally succeeds in actually becoming a film reporter. But see for yourself!
Incidentally, the film was released in cinemas in 1928 without its own music. As with most silent films, cinema musicians put together their own music on site. There were also catalogues with over a thousand titles, neatly arranged according to mood, plot and setting. In «The Cameraman» we had to look up the keywords «mass brawl» and «accident with speedboat», because Buster Keaton's films always make such a spectacle!
Instead of a sparse cinema band like a hundred years ago, the entire symphony orchestra accompanies the film in Winterthur. Rodolphe Schacher and Fabian Künzli have composed a stylish film music for it, which gives the silent film pearl the appropriate shine.
